1. Wat is een TEALcenter?

Een TEALcenter is een verplaatsbaar, veelzijdig community-innovatiecenter in de vorm van een octagon, gemaakt uit grotendeels circulaire materialen, zoals gerecupereerd steigerhout in aluminium profielen, met geupcyclede meubels en verlichting, en verwarmd met infrarood-verwarming panelen. Het beantwoordt aan de strengste normen voor (brand)veiligheid.

A TEALcenter is a movable, versatile community-innovation center in the shape of an octagon, made from mostly circular materials, such as recuperated wood in aluminum profiles, with upcycled furniture and lighting, and heated by infrared-panels. It complies to the strictest (fire) safety standards

2. Waarom TEALcenters?

TEALcenters zijn ontstaan uit visie-gedreven ondernemerschap om antwoorden te bieden op moderne uitdagingen zoals de afvalproblematiek en uitputting van grondstoffen, het burn out-fenomeen, het fileprobleem, de klimaatopwarming, en het samenleven en -werken in het algemeen. 

Why TEALcenters?

TEALcenters were created from vision-driven entrepreneurship to come up with solutions for modern challenges such as waste congestion and depletion of resources, the burn-out phenomenon, traffic jams, climate warming, and cooperation and co-education in general. 

3. Wat betekent TEAL?

TEAL is de afkorting voor Transformerende Eco-Artistieke Levensstijl. Het is ook het Engelse woord voor de kleur appelblauwzeegroen en wordt gebruikt in de managementfilosofie van Frederic Laloux om succesvol samenwerkende organisaties te beschrijven. Die opereren op basis van 3 principes: heelheid, zelfsturing en ecosysteemdenken.

Wat does TEAL mean?

TEAL is the acronym for Transformative Eco-Artistic Lifestyle. It is also a color between green and blue and is used by management consultant Frederic Laloux to describe organizations that cooperate in successful ways. They operate on the basis of three principles: wholeness, self-steering and ecosystem-thinking.

4. Wat zijn de troeven van een TEALcenter?

- TEALcenters zijn modulair en schaalbaar, ontworpen voor groepen van 20 tot 200 personen.
- Ze kunnen op 1 dag gebouwd worden en zijn veel goedkoper dan traditionele gebouwen.
- Doordat ze vallen onder industriële mobiele bouwwetgeving is er geen bouwvergunning nodig. (het zijn tentframes met houten wanden)
- Naargelang de functie bieden ze de community een stroom van baten en terugkerende inkomsten.
​- Het zijn geen traditionele woonsten, maar flexibele, collectieve dienstencentra.

Strengths of a TEALcenter

- TEALcenters are modular and scalable, designed for groups from 20 to 200 people.
- They can be built in 1 day and are much cheaper than traditional buildings.
- They require no building permit because they fall under industrial mobile building legislation. (basically they are tentframes with wooden walls)
- Depending on their use TEALcenters can provide recurrent income and other advantages for a community.
- They are not traditional homes, but flexible constructions for various collective services.

5. Welke functies hebben TEALcenters zoal?

- Community Resource Center: wordt doorgaans in of nabij een recyclagepark gebouwd, en ondersteunt de circulaire economie met team building, workshops en andere educatieve projecten, waaronder repair ateliers, workshops compostmeester, upcyclen van afval tot nuttige meubels en artistieke voorwerpen,... 
Via de aanpalende samentuin kunnen bomen en compost verdeeld worden.
* In samenwerking met We Go Circular vzw.

- Preventief gezondheidscentrum: kan zowel in steden als in eco-innovatief landbouwgebied gebouwd worden; hier vinden kleinschalige biolandbouwactiveiten plaats, worden allerlei workshops georganiseerd rond preventieve gezondheid, en is er mogelijkheid tot kruidenteelt, lichaamswerk, bijen houden. Deze TEALcentra willen een antwoord bieden voor de 440.000 Vlamingen die vechten tegen burn out door ze te helpen her-verbinden met de natuur, hun medemens en met zichzelf.  
​* In samenwerking met het Body & Soul-ervaringsfestival.

- Multicultureel Vredeshuis: plaats voor integratieworkshops, multiculturele feesten en interlevensbeschouwelijke dialoog, inclusief restaurant (op basis van voedseloverschotten), om in een ontspannen sfeer te werken aan integratie van migranten en asielzoekers. Kan tevens een kringloopwinkel bevatten, een speelgoedtheek, ruimte voor emanciperende vrouwencirkels enz.

- Satelliet-kantoor/ New Media Center / Fab Lab: een veilige high-techplaats om te werken en gedematerialiseerde technologietoepassingen te ontwikkelen en te delen, van softwarebureau met (3D-)printers en snel Internet, tot video-opnamemogelijkheden, een Library of Things, hub voor deelauto's en e-fietsen.
* In samenwerking met DNA-Earth.

​- Overlappende functies: solar kitchen (keuken op zonne-energie, juice bar, compost-toiletten, sociale ruimte,...)

Different set-ups of TEALcenters

- Community Resource Center: is usually built inside or nearby a recycling facility, and supports the circular economy with teambuilding, workshops and other educational projects, including repair cafés, workshops composting, up cycling of garbage to useful furniture and artistic artefacts.
Using an adjacent community garden trees and compost can be distributed.

- Preventive healthcare center: can be built in both cities and eco-innovative farming areas. Apart from small scale farming all kinds of workshops about preventive healthcare can be organised, and there's the possibility for growing herbs, bodywork, beekeeping... These TEALcenters want to provide a solution for the large percentage of workers who battle burn-out by helping them to re-connect with nature, their fellow human beings and with themselves. 
* In cooperation with the Body & Soul Holistic Health Festival. 

- Multicultural Peacehouse: the best place for integration workshops, multicultural activities and inter religious dialogue, including restaurant (preventing food waste) to work on integration of migrants and asylumseekers in a relaxed way.
This TEALcenter can also house a circular clothing store, a toy library, space for emancipating women's circles etc.

- Satellite-office/ New Media Center / Fab Lab: a safe high-tech place to collaborate and work on the development and sharing of dematerialized technology applications, from software developement with (3D-)printers and broadband Internet, to video-recording capabilities, and a Library of Things, a hub voor sharing and charging e-cars and e-bikes,...
* in cooperation with DNA-Earth.
